The laboratory of the Lithuanian AIDS Centre is one of the most modern laboratories in Lithuania. The most modern diagnostic methods like immunobloting and RNA/DNA testing of infectious diseases and STI have been first in Lithuania introduced and applied in this laboratory. According Ministry of Health, this laboratory perform National laboratory function for HIV/AIDS, polio and entero virus, measles and rubella, influenza and HFV so not do tests for this infections but also a lot organizational work. The laboratory is the accredited member of WHO European Region Poliomielytis and Measles/rubella Laboratory Networks. For people with HIV/AIDS are applied all tests for health care monitoring including biochemistry, hematology, hormones, cancer markers, immunity status, viral load, ARV sensitivity and other. Laboratory performs centralized biological markers testing for second HIV surveillance including drug addicts and other risk groups, also testing on drug use. Laboratory is responsible for diagnostics infections possible biological threats like avian influenza, SARS and pox viruses in Lithuania.
