One of main tasks is to provide information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections (STI) and drug use prevention means for various population groups (medics, pedagogues, journalists, school children, voluntaries, students, etc.). The goal of great importance is to help people to adopt the rules of safer behavior and change public opinion towards people living with HIV and AIDS. The department pays much attention to collaboration with governmental (ministries, municipalities) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) active in the field of HIV/AIDS and drug use prevention or willing to be involved. Collaboration forms include advisory support, information, distribution of various educational (printed, video, audio) materials, and training of volunteers.

The department owns the collection of more than 10000 literature samples. All the information is computerized. The funds are constantly replenished and available free of charge for medical workers, teachers, journalists, NGOs, social workers, people living with HIV/AIDS and etc. The main activities are: initiation and execution of international (International Candlelight Memorial, World AIDS Day and AIDS Memorial Day) and national projects (Competitions „We against AIDS“), preparation and publishing of methodical and informational publications, close collaboration with the media, updating of the information in the web-site http://www.aids.lt and etc.
