“When somebody asks me if I used to go to museums as a child, I reply – no, I did not, and if I sometimes went, I would not find them interesting. So if a museum fails to trigger your emotions, it is only logical that the Non-Museum will do so easily. In the meantime, a virtual museum has a chance to build a link between history and us,” said Remigijus Šimašius, Mayor of Vilnius.

“Together with my workmate Laurynas Šeškus we had launched a number of TV projects and even TV channels, but this is probably the first project that was not ordered by anybody; therefore, we are genuinely excited,” joked Jakilaitis when welcoming the guests.

Surprises were here awaiting the guests even before entering the Telia Non-Museum: the red band for the ceremonious cutting were delivered to the very door of the museum by two drones and once it was cut the first guests were invited to enter the museum.
On that inauguration celebration evening the guests were offered three premier sessions; in the waiting lobby wearing virtual reality glasses all could try “flights“ over Vilnius and the most remarkable locations in Lithuania, such as Curonian Split, Kadagiai Valley, Trakai, etc.

Starting from June 2, the Telia Non-Museum will await visitors every day, except Mondays. The visit sessions start every half an hour, accommodating up to 40 people at a time and the information will be communicated to the headphones in one of eight languages.

By employing the most advanced technologies, historians and painters started telling the story of Vilnius at the Telia Non-Museum from the Duke Gediminas’ dream. The technologies were also used to recreate the fires of Vilnius, the love story between Žygimintas Augustas and Barbora Radvilaitė, the flourishing of the city in the Baroque epoch, and the withdrawal of the Napoleon army. The sessions also bring the visitors to tragic events and periods in the history of Vilnius: the Paneriai tragedy, the post-war period in Vilnius, and the KGB activity.
