A picturesque route in Vilnius and its environs is planned to be offered for travellers by car2007-03-26 00:00
![]() Next tourism season, a route through picturesque sites of Vilnius and its environs will be offered to travellers by car. The main part of the motor tourism route will be about 80 km long circle road with 19 sightseeing objects and 18 panoramic sites. Travellers on the picturesque route will be guided by a special tourism information system. Information signs and billboards will inform about recommended sites, from which peculiar panoramic views of the city and natural environment open. There will also be indications of historical objects that are remoter from the city centre, less known but valuable. In addition, special publications will be issued, audioguide and teleguide will be prepared, website will be developed for tourists travelling by car. The Municipality of the capital city is planning to develop this motor route in the course of implementation of the project "Development of a picturesque motor route in Vilnius City and environs" co-financed by the Republic of Lithuania and European Union Regional Development Fund (No. BPD2004-ERPF-3.4.4-04-06/0019). The implementation of the project will last from 1st January till 31st December 2007. Total cost of the project – 1.052 million Lt, including 706.86 thousand Lt support from the European Union Regional Development Fund, and 236.12 thousand Lt – co-financing of the Republic of Lithuania. The Municipality assigns 109.60 thousand Lt for this project.
Aims pursued by this project are to promote tourism, improve accessibility to remote sites attractive for tourists, increase variety and complexity of tourism resources and services. The project implemented by the capital city is expected to encourage other cities and districts of Lithuania to develop similar routes and join the common system of Baltic motor routes, to contribute to development of the type of sightseeing cultural tourism experiencing growing popularity in Vilnius city and county. In the beginning of March, this project was introduced for the first time in the international tourism, sports and leisure exhibition “Vivattur 2007”, where it enjoyed great interest among the exhibition visitors.
