Development projects

DEVELOPMENT OF VILNIUS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


Investments: Development of the territory – approx. € 255 mln. Extension of the terminal – € 29 mln. invested in 2007.


Objectives of the project: To modernize the territory of Vilnius International Airport, to improve passenger service and the city “gate” image. To improve connections with city centre and Kaunas airport.


Stage of the project: Implemented, planned.


Geographical location: 7 km to Vilnius City centre, 3 km to railway and bus stations, and 1 km to IXB Transport Corridor, 100 km to Kaunas.


Investment environment: Passenger flow during 2007 was 1.7 mln. There were 32,840 flights in 2007. There are 27 direct flights. Planned airport capacity for 2008 is 3.5 mln. passengers per year.


Legal status of the property: State company Vilnius International Airport.


Infrastructure status: Extension of the terminal with customs control for the citizens of non-Schengen countries completed in 2007. Plans are to extend the runway by 500 m. Construction of Vilnius southern bypass (IXB Transport Corridor) started in 2006 and will be finished in 2009.


Territorial use: Infrastructure – 193 ha, commercial – 81 ha, industrial – 52 ha, recreational – 7 ha.


Territorial area: Airport territory – 333 ha, access are to the airport – 98 ha


Building potential: Commercial and infrastructure buildings – 110 ha, industrial buildings – 42 ha.


Permitted height: 5 storey.


Parking places: 450 in multi-storey car parking. 550 in other car parking with planned enlargement up to 1,500.


Total area of the buildings: Extension of the terminal – 17,000 sq. m, planned area of other buildings in the future – up to 400,000 sq. m.


Project developers: State company Vilnius International Airport, Vilnius City Council.


Project author: Extension of the terminal – UAB Forma, architects L. Vaitys, R. Kučinskas; Detailed plan – ME Vilniaus Planas, architect A. Smaliukas.


Design period: Technical project for extension of the terminal – in 2005, preparation of the detailed plan of the territory – 2006–2008.


Construction period: Extension of the terminal – 2006–2007, other – beginning in 2008.
