VILNIUS TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE NETWORK DEVELOPMENT

Investments: € 401 mln. including:
Southern highway (IX B corridor) – € 77,5 mln. including € 41.4 mln. from EU Cohesion fund; Western highway – € 113 mln.; Northern link – € 38 mln.;
City Southern bypass – € 78 mln.; Western link – € 94 mln.

Objectives of the project: To develop a network of Vilnius roads and streets, to connect city high speed streets network with external road network and to form united transport corridors system.

Stage of the project: Construction and planning.

Geographical location: Vilnius city, Vilnius district, Trakai district.

Investment environment: The number of cars in Vilnius – 545 cars per 1,000 inhabitants in 2008. The major problem of transportation infrastructure – Vilnius has no highway network. € 145 mln. was invested to major transportation infrastructure in Vilnius from 2000 to 2007. Territories for commercial and industrial development planned next to the new streets.

Legal status of the property: State land and private land plots.

Infrastructure status: Southern highway (IX B transport corridor) of 2,9 km length connecting Žirnių str. and Laisvės pr. is under construction and will be finished in 2009. Western highway (TEN-T transport network) of 9 km length from Oslo str. to Ukmergės motorway technical project will be completed in 2010. Northern link of 5 km length from Western highway to Žirmūnų street has prepared technical project. City southern bypass of 27 km length is under construction and will be completed in 2013. Western link of approx. 15 km length from Pilaitė to Kaunas motorway is planned.

Total length of roads and streets: 60 km

Design period: 2001-2013.

Construction period: 2006-2015. Southern highway – 2006-2009.
